Cat Hurston is an author and cousin of playwright, novelist Zora Neale Hurston. She is an MBA graduate who currently resides in Southern California. She has also written films and plays beginning at a very young age. She is a powerful teacher, speaker and ministry leader within her community that has a vision to ignite passion from the soul of the reader. Her work enlightens, inspires and cultivates the artist that is buried deep within each of us.
From Ohio to Los Angeles her friends and fans can catch her acting, singing, dancing, writing and directing. She has performed, written, directed and produced plays for elementary school districts, community churches and theatres houses abroad. Since the fourth grade Cat fell in love with writing poetry and short theatrical skits and plans to publish her work in the near future. Cat is the cousin of writer/playwright Zora Neale Hurston (“There Eyes Were Watching God” starring Halle Berry and Michael Ealy, and actively seeks to continue her family’s legacy with writing, performing and directing pieces of work that ignite and soothe the soul.
She was an assistant to acting coach Tasha Smith (Tyler Perry’s “Why did I get Married, Daddys Little Girls and Americas Next Top Model) and has studied techniques from Ivanna Chubuck and the infamous Van Mar Academy of Motion Pictures and Television.
Cat had her big break as a co-star on the Disney television show “Undeclared” followed by small roles in Lords Of Dogstown, starring Heath Ledger, The Urban Demographic and Slammed. Cat has been a national spokespersonfor Dryel, Swiffer and United Way’s Domestic Violence billboard campaigns nationwide.
Cat holds a Bachelor degree from The Ohio State University in Acting /Directing, a dual Masters Degree in Business Marketing and Public Policy. She is certified from John Casablanca’s Modeling and Career Center in Commercials and Modeling. She has been a member of Women In Film, The Community Artist Guild, and The Attic Theatre and Film Center and currently directing the stage play “The Office Girls” written by novelist Sylvester Stephens.
Cat Hurston is the founder and CEO of Hurston Entertainment LLC which shall provide further expansion opportunities for artist who are eager to explore and utilize there talents through the expression of any and all art forms. Hurston Entertainment LLC will launch the production of her first feature film, The Right Piece of Pie.
